I was the 65th wife of polygamist cult leader Warren Jeffs. Born and raised in the FLDS church, I became an eye-witness of his abuse of power and took a stand from the inside.
After years of torment, attempts on my life and efforts to leave, I escaped out of a window and ran to safety. With no time to grab shoes, I was dubbed the "Barefoot Wife", by media outlets who didn't know my name.
Acquiring the legal deed to Jeffs' 45-bedroom home, I co-founded the Short Creek Dream Center. Our renovations turned the once menacing compound into a place of refuge for women and children leaving my old community.
Now, I am telling my full story, in my book Disrobing the Dictator.

May 23, 2022, marked the 10 year anniversary of Briell's escape!
In her Tedx Scottsdale Women Tank, she tells about her life in the FLDS, what led her to leave and the healing journey she has been on since. She talks about what she has done to rewrite her story and the freedom that comes when one is able to dream of the future.
Tedx Scottsdale Women Talk November 2020
Briell and Camilla met as volunteers for a nonprofit that assists women coming out of human trafficking and domestic violence situations. While stopping for lunch, Briell told Camilla about her own life experiences.
Having always had a passion for true stories, ones that inspire because they show the resilience of the human soul, Camilla was hooked. It wasn't long after, that she asked Briell if she could help write her life story.
For the past couple years, they have immersed themselves in the process. Both, are excited to finally be at this point, anticipating the release of the book this fall!
